~ SYNOPSIS ~
When Joya Bennett wakes up after her brother’s wedding, half-naked and lying next to her lifelong crush, she’s mortified. OMG, did she try to jump his bones? Worse, did she succeed? Intending to lay low and housesit for her brother until the embarrassment fades, she sneaks away before he wakes up.
What she didn’t plan on is having company.
Lincoln Fisher doesn’t do relationships, but if he did, his friend’s little sister would be the one to tie him down. Good thing Joya had one too many drinks during the reception or he’d have crossed a line. Her brother would kill him if he found out all the places Linc wanted to kiss the sexy, auburn-haired beauty.
And now they’re stuck in the same house. For two weeks.
She’s off-limits. And he needs to keep it that way, even if the heat building between them is hot enough to blow off the roof…
~ Warning this review may contain spoilers ~
Linc is restaurant owner and Joya’s brother’s best friend. Joya is a news producer for the morning news. How timings can suck! Joya is torn between the perfect job and the perfect man. This is a one-time deal.. Should she go with her head or her heart?
Linc & Joya are both are likeable and thoughtful characters who I felt could have been stronger. I found it’s a bit vague, the characters developed emotionally with them both being a bit timid in telling the other what they wanted. Joya near the end of the book decided on what she really wanted. It feels a little disjointed, this may be due to their jobs etc.
The award for most character development goes to…. It has to be Linc! He’s always seen Joya as his best friends sister until the wedding and he gets to see a lot more of her then he planned. He definitely sees her as more than his best friends sister. The irony is that he also starts to fall in love with her. For the person she is and the way she’s makes him feel. Subconsciously he must have had some feelings for her before the wedding.
What you see if that Love really does conquer all, Joya gives up her dream job for Linc, now this could be seen as a stupid move especially as she’s unsure of his feelings but she actually does it for herself and suggests an outcome that works for her.
Is there character growth? Erm… Yes – both Joya and Linc go from singletons to wanted to make it work as a couple. To have the “Happily Ever After”.
~ PLOT ~
The main conflict is that neither of the lead characters KNOW what the other wants, their different work patterns makes it difficult for them to have a deep and meaningful conversation the story was sexy heavy (this is not a bad thing). We seen glimpses of what makes Joya and Linc tick but the author doesn’t delve deeper. Broone Brux has us easily connecting with the characters, who doesn’t have that matchmaker friend or that childhood crush or even that person who just drives you nuts!
The story opens up slowly like a flower coming into bloom. In its own time. Yes – it has a predictable ending. That’s the whole point of picking this type of read. I want the girl to get the guy. I want love to conquer all. I definitely want my happily ever after to happen to the girl next door. Because it gives me hope that it could happen for me.

Boone began writing after the birth of her twins, a desperate attempt to keep her mind from turning to mush amid the in stereo babbling. Now a full-time writer, Boone focuses her attention on demons and the dark, but can’t help adding a bit of humor on the side. She’s published through Entangled Publishing and Red Hot Publishing.
