The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Audiobook Review | Narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal | Length: 4 hours 52 mins

AUDIBLE SUMMARY: F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s classic American novel of the Roaring Twenties is beloved by generations of readers and stands as his crowning work. The new audio edition, authorized by F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s estate, is narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) Gyllenhaal’s performance is a faithful delivery in the voice of Nick Carraway, the Midwesterner turned New York bond salesman, who rents a small house next door to the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby. There, he has a firsthand view of the Gatsby’s lavish West Egg parties – and of his undying love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan.

After meeting and losing Daisy during the war, Gatsby has made himself fabulously wealthy. Now, he believes that his only way to true happiness is to find his way back into Daisy’s life, and he uses Nick to try to reach her. What happens when the characters’ fantasies are confronted with reality makes for a startling conclusion to this iconic masterpiece

Are you looking for a novel that has you facing the real you? The Great Gatsby has you challenging what you’d think and feel about yourself. Would you be selfish as Daisy or naive as Nick? Would you think love conquers all like Jay? It’s a classic, for the honest and true feelings it brings out in you?

Image resultNarrator Jake Gyllenhaal’s rich and sultry tones brings this classic to life. So pleasing to the ear, his interpretation of Nick Carraway is captivating. The Great Gatsby is perfectly translated into audio. To be honest; one of the reasons for picking the audiobook was down to Jake Gyllenhaal being the narrator. Many have reviewed that The Great Gatsby is a difficult read to read. The audiobook brought the events within the novel to life, almost making them feel tangible and realistic. I doubt I would have had the same experience if I had read the book rather than listen to it.

WOULD I RECOMMEND IT? With Jake Gyllenhaal’s rich tones, why wouldn’t you want to curl up and listen to him read to you a classic? His sultry voices sending you to sleep? You could close your eyes and he’d be right there beside you.

Would I reread it? Maybe – how often would you want to face your inner demon?
